Notes from July 17, 2019 Meeting

This fire cracker hot week is finally drawing to a close…
We had a great speaker on Wednesday. Savannah Figueroa of Date Creek Ranch told us about their operation, which is described as an environmentally healthy, diverse, and socially responsible cattle ranch that strives for a healthy atmosphere for wildlife, people, and livestock. They have been providing grass fed beef, lamb, and natural pork for local families since 1988. Savannah works in tandem with Ryan Barteau, who is the brother of our amazing server, Amberley.
They also have peach and apple orchards, and peach picking is going on right now on July 20 and 21. Apple picking will be in September.

In other news, Judy Haenel reported that Wine and Design was a lot of fun, and actual work got done. There are still mugs to fill, so there will be another Wine and Design evening when we can coordinate a time and date. Lupe Encinas was especially enthusiastic about the project. Judy can also use more silk flowers for the arrangements, if you have some you can spare or stumble upon a sale.
Susan Fitzgerald’s Rotary club is having a fundraiser at On the Border on Bell Rd. Tuesday, July 30 from 11 AM to 10 PM. Come have dinner or lunch that day and mention you are there for the Peoria Rotary Foundation fundraiser. Deadline to sign up is July 27th. It’s hot as the door knob to hell out there, so please be very careful. Put some extra water bottles in your car in case you have to sit somewhere in traffic or by the side of the road. And keep an eye out for wildlife. The dry weather is driving various species into residential areas, and they are just looking for water. I have noticed an uptick in the hysterics posted on my neighborhood website from folks who forget that the bobcats and the javelinas were here before Starbucks ever saw the light of day in these parts.
