Notes from July 10, 2019 Meeting

Dear Everybody,

Some meetings are simply “great.” This one today was deserving of the term “awesome.”

We were happy to welcome guests Sharman Hickman, her son Cy Silva, their friend Banet Flores (14-year old golf whiz), and Dr. Beth’s two mini-Deemers. We were also happy to have Ulysses and his brother Nicholas (who helped Ulysses with his presentation materials).

Our 50/50 raffle netted $88 dollars, which was won by our guest Banet. She graciously donated her half of the proceeds to our beneficiary today – Ulysses, founder of Lizards for Kids…and more!

Ulysses had prepared a great deal of visual aids and printed information, and explained in detail his business plan for his new endeavor. It is his intent to breed lizards, and to be a source of information about the proper care and handling of these animals. He explained that he has already done extensive research, and is also developing ways to market his company’s products. There will be hats and tee-shirts available soon. We asked him to keep us in the loop as to how his business is growing, and we asked that he return in a few months to update us.

We talked about various ways that Ulysses can get exposure that will promote his business but not expose him to any risk on social media. His YouTube channel has a lot of great information. Search for him under Ulytron2000.

Susan Riedel presented Judy Haenel with the Phoenix Hometown Hero Award from Modern Woodmen. The award also includes a check for $100 which will be directed towards Judy’s non-profit, Tulip Tree Charities. Congratulations to Judy, and thanks, Susan, for your continued support through Modern Woodmen.

Judy also says that the mugs for Make Somebody Smile are in, and the first Wine and Design session will be on Tuesday, July 16, any time after 2:00 p.m. The flowers this year are artificial, so they will hold up even in the hands of those of us who aren’t as skilled as Judy.

Susan Fitzgerald reminded us that the Peace Conference is still scheduled for September 20, and will be held at the Rio Vista Center. Details will follow.

If you bought Natalie Stahl’s book Aisles for Miles: My Years as a Nuptial Concierge/Wedding Doula, will you please be so kind as to go onto Amazon and leave a glowing review? The link to Amazon is https://amzn.to/2KrWcGQ. If you don’t have her book yet, you will be able to order it here, too.

Again, the meeting today was really reassuring for anybody who was worried that the young people coming up behind us might not be able to keep our world pulled together. I went home thinking that maybe, just maybe, things are going to be all right.

Please feel free to invite your kids to come with you whenever you can talk them into being our guests.

Best wishes, and have a good rest of the week.
