Notes from May 29, 2019 Meeting

Dear Everybody,

We were missing several of our regulars due to illness, vacations and trips out of town, and other life events. For those of you who are feeling puny, get well soon. For those of you who are having a break, don’t forget the sunscreen.

We had a candid discussion about various ways that older people are exploited. There are as many ways to scam a kind heart as there are villains to do it.

We also touched on how it is important to have your property boundaries clearly defined – especially in the event that you ever want to sell. Audrey provided a sobering example of a 92 year old client in Paradise Valley who is running into difficulties because of a three foot discrepancy created by a misplaced fence.

Lupe Encinas gifted us each with two very snazzy pens that write in two colors. We were all more excited than we cared to admit that we have such nifty new pens.

In other member news, our beautiful Landrie will be getting married on August 3. We are delighted for her, and will keep her mother as calm as possible during the next few weeks. The next very few SHORT weeks…

Speaking of Landrie’s mother, Natalie Stahl indicated that the pre-trial discussions relating to the driver who hit the car in which Landrie was a passenger last year are becoming more prolonged, and more contentious. The lack of collective sympathy on the part of our membership for the driver charged in the accident was apparent.

Next week, June 5, will be our monthly raffle and business meeting. So far, nobody has claimed the sponsorship of the raffle, and we will be defaulting to a 50/50 raffle. The winner of the 50/50 raffle is entrusted with donating half of her winnings to the recipient of her choice. If you want to sponsor the upcoming raffle, or any other during the year, just let me know and we will put you on the calendar.

Also, please note that a portion of Susan Riedel’s presentation on June 26 will include honoring Judy Haenel with a Hometown Hero Award for her ongoing charity work in the community. Judy’s relentless pursuit of the greater good is inspiring for us in particular, and vastly under-appreciated in general. So, congratulations to Judy Haenel. Please plan to be on hand on June 26. (You, too, Judy!)

Best wishes for a happy remainder of the week.

Best wishes,
Jody Serey
