Notes from April 24, 2019 Meeting

Dear Everybody,

It was the last meeting of April already. Make sure you plan to be with us next week. Our business meeting will be a double header with our monthly raffle (which will be a 50/50 unless somebody wants to sponsor it), and our member speaker Robin McCombs. So make plans to stagger into the light of dawn and be with us.

We shared a lot of diverse and interesting news.

Susan Fitzgerald and husband, Chuck, will host the 13th Annual Community Baby Shower on Friday, May 17 from 5:30-8:00 p.m. at their home. Donations support the Glendale Choices Pregnancy Center’s “Earn While You Learn” parenting program. Susan is also enjoying her new puppy, Oliver.

Lupe Encinas is busy studying for new certifications for her businesses. She also announced that they now have a new pet, because who can pass up a “free snake” wrangled from the wilds of her back yard. She assured doubters that the snake is non-venomous. Lupe is also having dress issues just ahead of a fancy gala where she is to be an emcee. Ami was alerted to possible emergency intervention.

Wendy Terrell reported that she and her partner had held a second prom boutique for the students of Peoria High School, and 31 dresses went home. She is still looking for a storage solution for their stock of dresses. She also reported on snakes at a wedding that were eventually moved to a less public spot, thanks to her husband.

Natalie Stahl reports that her dad has recovered from the virus that earned him a helicopter ride to Mayo, which is standard procedure for a double organ transplant recipient who gets sick and nobody knows with what. Natalie is also sporting a lovely orthopedic boot on her foot, right in time for her family vacation to Disneyland. Natalie’s busy season has wrapped up, and she is looking forward to letting her bad foot rest up a bit.

Brooke Schiavone said that her family has all been sick, but is finally on the mend. The store is busy as it slides into Mother’s Day, and a Ladies’ Craft Night is planned for Friday, May 3. To register, go to https://www.eventbrite.com/e/get-creative-at-zs-tickets-59554888274.

There is also a kids’ crafts week right before Mother’s Day. They are also planning something special for Father’s Day, with details to be announced. So watch Brooke’s social media for ongoing updates.

Judy Haenel survived both a major prom event at Warehouse 215 at Bentley Projects, and Easter. She is facing down Mother’s Day, graduations, June weddings (yes, even in Arizona), and whatever other flower occasions arise. She said her Easter dinner was challenging, and helped bring everybody back down to earth since most people seemed to have had a very Hallmark-worthy day.

Audrey Hickman and many members of the Hickman family were at the White House the day after Easter for the traditional Easter egg roll on the lawn with the President and First Lady. She said it is an event that is mind-boggling and anybody who has the opportunity to go with their kids or grandkids should do so.

Landrie Stahl let us know that she passed out quickly at her tilt table test, and the reasons why are still being determined. She is also training to be a mermaid for Traveling Princesses. A boot camp for mermaids was suggested by Brooke, who also offered her pool as a training grounds. Jody Serey has also extended an invitation. Landrie recently added Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz to her cast of characters.

Robin McCombs is entering her busy season with AC calls, and is gearing up for a long hot summer (she hopes).  She also thanked Dr. Beth Deemer and her office for her new glasses.

Dr. Beth Deemer thanked Robin McCombs for her new AC. So Beth can keep cool and Robin can see. That is the kind of happy ending through networking we love to see.

Jody Serey said that she is fully engulfed in books and book production, and is happy to be so. She still does not judge people on their spelling and grammar, just the way Wendy doesn’t judge you if you try to cut your own bangs.

A reminder that all of our meeting notes and the newsletters are available on the website www.northwestwomensnetwork.com. The newsletters are at https://www.northwestwomensnetwork.com/newsletters. We also post them on Facebook.

One of the most simple and quick ways to support each other’s businesses is to interact with each other’s social media – including the group’s pages. This is a case where you can make a big difference without having to strain a muscle or write a check.

Have a great rest of the week!
